Marble mining is not just a craft
Throughout the ages, marble has enchanted the world with its grace and durability. From the magnificent statues of ancient Greece to the opulent palaces of the Renaissance, its presence is a tribute to the eternal power of human creativity.
But as the blocks emerge from the heart of the earth, there is also a warning: Marble’s beauty is both precious and fragile. It is up to us to preserve and honour it, so that future generations can marvel at the wonders of this noble material.

A complex process
Marble extraction is a complex process that requires careful planning, precision and expertise. One of the most important steps in the process is the extraction of a block of marble from the marble bench, a process that combines traditional techniques with modern technology.
The mining of marble
Before we start excavating a Verona Red or Nembro block, we carefully select and prepare the site. This includes removing loose rocks and other obstacles to create a safe and efficient working area.
We then mark and measure the marble blocks to be extracted to ensure that each block is properly extracted from the marble bench and that no damage or breakage occurs. Drilling and blasting techniques are used to remove the marble block from its natural bed. This involves drilling holes along a predetermined line in the marble into which explosives are placed. The number, depth and placement of the holes must be carefully calculated to ensure controlled fragmentation of the rock.
Wire saws or diamond wires are used for more precise control of cutting particularly large or fragile blocks of marble. Once the marble block has been successfully cut, it is carefully inspected for structural or aesthetic defects and prepared for transport. Depending on its size and condition, the marble block can be directly processed by us into various products such as slabs, tiles or sculptures.
